Social media platform X has announced plans to retire its existing Revenue Sharing programme, with the change taking effect on September 7, 2026.
According to the platform, a new monetisation initiative known as the "Original Content Rewards Programme" will begin on September 8, 2026, with a greater focus on rewarding creators who produce original content.
The change represents a significant shift in X's approach to creator monetisation, as the platform seeks to place greater emphasis on original and engaging content rather than relying solely on the existing revenue-sharing structure.
Under the new programme, eligible creators are expected to benefit from a system designed around original content creation, although the specific eligibility requirements, reward structure and payment criteria will determine how the new initiative compares with the outgoing programme.
The announcement is expected to attract significant attention from creators who currently earn money through X's monetisation programmes, particularly those who have built audiences and income streams under the existing Revenue Sharing system.
Creators have been advised to pay close attention to official updates from X regarding the transition, eligibility requirements and how outstanding payments under the current programme will be handled.
The new Original Content Rewards Programme is scheduled to commence on September 8, 2026, one day after the Revenue Sharing programme is retired.
