The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has vowed to resist any attempt to stop Christians from preaching in commercial buses, insisting that believers would continue to evangelise even if such a law were enacted.
The Christian umbrella body made its position known amid ongoing public debate over proposals to regulate or prohibit religious preaching in public transportation.
According to the PFN, evangelism is a core aspect of the Christian faith, and believers have a responsibility to share their message while respecting the rights and dignity of others.
The fellowship maintained that any policy aimed at preventing Christians from preaching in commercial buses would amount to an infringement on the constitutional rights to freedom of religion and expression.
PFN, however, urged Christians to conduct their evangelism peacefully, responsibly and without causing unnecessary disturbance or infringing on the rights of fellow passengers.
The development has sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting the protection of religious freedom, while others have called for measures to balance freedom of worship with the comfort and preferences of commuters using public transport.
