The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates who sat the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
According to WAEC, the withheld results account for 8.59 per cent of the total number of candidates who participated in the 2026 examination.
The examination body explained that the affected results are being withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various reported cases of examination misconduct.
WAEC stated that candidates whose results have been withheld will be notified of the outcome after the council's investigations and review processes are completed, in line with its established procedures.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the integrity and credibility of its examinations, warning candidates, schools, supervisors and invigilators against engaging in any form of examination malpractice.
WAEC also reiterated that it will continue to deploy technology and strengthen its monitoring mechanisms to detect and curb examination malpractice, ensuring that only candidates who comply with its regulations receive valid examination results.
