John Ternus has officially become the Chief Executive Officer of Apple, replacing Tim Cook effective September 1, 2026.
Apple announced the leadership transition earlier this year as part of a long-term succession plan approved unanimously by the company's board.
Ternus, who previously served as Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, joins the company's board as CEO. He has been with Apple for more than two decades and played a key role in the development of several major Apple products.
Cook, who has led Apple as CEO since 2011, will become the company's Executive Chairman, where he is expected to continue supporting Apple in selected areas, including engagement with policymakers around the world.
The leadership change marks a major transition for Apple as Ternus takes charge of the world's most valuable technology companies and begins shaping its next chapter.
