A video showing some of the 15 NYSC corps members rescued from kidnappers in Kogi State has emerged, with one of the survivors recounting how the abduction unfolded.
The corps members were travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their NYSC orientation programme when armed men reportedly intercepted their vehicle in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to rescued corps member David Ayodele, the attackers forced the passengers out of the vehicle and marched them into the forest while firing shots into the air.
He said the victims were allegedly flogged, kicked and threatened with death as they were taken deeper into the bush.
Ayodele further recounted that the kidnappers told the victims they would remain in the forest for a month before being killed and warned them not to move without permission.
He expressed relief when security personnel eventually located and rescued them, commending the Nigerian Army, police, DSS and local hunters involved in the operation.
A total of 21 people — including the 15 NYSC members and six other abductees — were eventually rescued from the forest in Ofu LGA following a coordinated security operation.
The rescued victims were subsequently attended to before arrangements were made for their reunification with their families.
