The YBNL boss recalled that he was in his second year at university when he heard the song, expressing amazement at its quality and wondering how another human being could create such music.

“I dropped out of school in 200 level after I heard Wande Coal’s ‘Bumper 2 Bumper’ for the first time. I was like, ‘Na human being sign this song?’” Olamide said.

He added humorously that he asked his brother to cover for him so their father would not discover that he had returned to Lagos.

“I just told my brother to cover for me so Dad wouldn’t know I had gone back to Lagos,” he recalled.

Wande Coal’s “Bumper 2 Bumper,” released in 2009, became one of the standout Nigerian pop songs of its era, earning recognition for its catchy sound and influence on the country’s contemporary music scene.

Olamide, whose real name is Olamide Adedeji, later established himself as one of Nigeria’s prominent rappers and music executives, building a successful career through hit songs and the establishment of his record label, YBNL Nation.

His recollection highlights the impact music can have on aspiring artists and the difficult decisions some make when choosing between formal education and pursuing a creative career.

However, his experience remains a personal story and should not be taken as a general recommendation for students to abandon their education.
