CCB Chairman Abubakar Bello says increased funding will strengthen accountability and public service ethics
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant increase in the budgetary allocation of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), raising it from about ₦3 billion to nearly ₦20 billion, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and ethical standards in public service.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abubakar Bello, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to Bello, the substantial budget increase reflects the Tinubu administration’s renewed commitment to institutional reforms and the fight against corruption.
He explained that the enhanced funding will enable the bureau to operate more effectively, particularly in the areas of asset declaration monitoring, enforcement of the Code of Conduct for public officers, and nationwide sensitisation on ethical governance. Bello noted that years of limited funding had constrained the bureau’s capacity to fully discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The CCB chairman further stated that with the improved allocation, the bureau plans to upgrade its infrastructure, deploy modern technology for asset verification, and strengthen its presence across the states to ensure closer monitoring of public officers at all levels of government.
Describing the approval as a major milestone, Bello said the increase signals strong political will by the President to empower key anti-corruption and oversight institutions. He added that the bureau would ensure prudent utilisation of the funds in line with government regulations and public expectations.
The budgetary boost comes amid broader reforms under the Tinubu administration aimed at rebuilding public trust, improving governance standards, and reinforcing institutions critical to Nigeria’s democratic and accountability framework.
