Eric Chelle’s Job Safe as Super Eagles Coach, NSC DG Bukola Olopade Confirms

National Sports Commission dismisses speculation over the Super Eagles’ technical leadership, insisting the head coach retains full backing.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has moved to end growing speculation surrounding the future of Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, firmly stating that the Franco-Malian tactician is not under any threat of dismissal.

Speaking on the matter, the Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, said Chelle remains the substantive head coach of Nigeria’s senior national football team and continues to enjoy the confidence and support of the country’s sports authorities. According to him, reports suggesting an imminent change in the Super Eagles’ technical crew are unfounded and misleading.

Olopade emphasised that the NSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is focused on ensuring stability within the national team setup, particularly as Nigeria prepares for crucial international competitions and qualification campaigns. He noted that frequent speculation about coaching changes only distracts the team and undermines long-term planning.

The NSC Director General added that Chelle was appointed based on his technical competence, experience, and vision for the Super Eagles, and that the coaching crew has been given a clear mandate to build a competitive and disciplined squad capable of restoring Nigeria’s dominance on the continental and global stage.

He further urged football stakeholders and fans to exercise patience and support the current technical team, stressing that meaningful progress in football development requires consistency and institutional backing rather than knee-jerk reactions to rumours.

With the NSC’s clarification, Chelle’s position appears secure for now, as attention shifts back to preparations for upcoming fixtures and the broader objective of repositioning the Super Eagles as a formidable force in African football.
