Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji says revised tax policies are designed to ease the burden on vulnerable Nigerians
Low-income earners across Nigeria are set to gain the most from the Federal Government’s new tax reforms, according to the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji.
Speaking on the objectives of the ongoing fiscal reforms, Dr. Adedeji explained that the redesigned tax framework is intentionally structured to reduce the financial burden on low-income households while promoting fairness, inclusion, and economic stability. He noted that the reforms are part of a broader strategy to create a more equitable tax system that protects vulnerable citizens and encourages productivity.
According to the revenue chief, the new measures prioritise relief for Nigerians at the lower end of the income ladder by minimising their tax obligations and ensuring they retain more of their earnings to meet basic living needs. At the same time, the reforms are aimed at strengthening government revenue through improved compliance, efficiency, and a broader tax base, rather than overburdening struggling workers.
Dr. Adedeji emphasised that the tax reforms align with the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare, adding that a fair taxation system is essential for national development. He assured Nigerians that the implementation process would be transparent and guided by policies that support economic resilience and shared prosperity.
The announcement has sparked renewed public interest in the upcoming tax changes, with many Nigerians closely watching how the reforms will translate into tangible benefits for low-income earners and the wider economy in the months ahead.
