Supporters highlight experience, leadership style and grassroots connection ahead of future electionsAs political conversations intensify across Ogun West Senatorial District, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi Olatunji is being projected by supporters as a capable and strategic choice for representation at the National Assembly, with emphasis on his experience, leadership qualities, and track record in public service.
Advocates describe the district as being at a critical point in its political journey, noting that the next phase of representation requires more than conventional politics. According to them, the need is for a leader who listens, understands the complexities of governance, and remains connected to the people. In this context, they argue that Olatunji’s approach to leadership reflects a blend of accessibility, policy understanding, and administrative competence.
Hon. Olatunji’s political journey began at the grassroots level, where he served as a councillor before rising to become Executive Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government. During his tenure, supporters point to development initiatives and policies implemented across the 16 wards as evidence of his commitment to inclusive governance and community development.
He later served in advisory roles within the Ogun State government, including as Special Assistant on Youth Affairs for Ogun West, where he engaged with young people and represented their interests. His subsequent appointment as Special Adviser on Political Affairs further positioned him within the executive arm of government, contributing to policy coordination and political strategy.
His legislative experience has also been highlighted as a key strength. As a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olatunji chaired the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti Corruption during his first term, a role that involved oversight of public spending and promotion of accountability. In his current term, he serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, overseeing budget processes and fiscal planning.
Supporters argue that this combination of executive and legislative experience equips him with the capacity to navigate national politics, build strategic alliances, and attract development to Ogun West. They also emphasise his understanding of local challenges, particularly in areas they describe as underrepresented within the district.
As discussions around future elections continue, stakeholders note that issues of representation, equity, and effective leadership are likely to shape political decisions in Ogun West. For proponents of Olatunji’s candidacy, his record in public service and governance positions him as a figure capable of advancing the district’s interests at the national level.
