Nigeria's crude oil production has climbed to a 74-month high, surpassing the production quota allocated to the country by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The latest output marks Nigeria's highest monthly oil production level in more than six years, reflecting improved performance in the country's oil sector.
The increase comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and industry stakeholders to boost crude production through enhanced security around oil facilities, increased investment and measures to curb crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
Exceeding the OPEC production quota is expected to strengthen government revenue, improve foreign exchange earnings and support broader economic growth.
Industry observers say the development signals renewed momentum in Nigeria's oil and gas sector, although sustaining the increased production will depend on continued investments, operational efficiency and improved security in oil-producing communities.
The milestone represents a significant boost for Africa's largest oil producer as it seeks to maximise the benefits of higher crude output while meeting its obligations within the OPEC production framework.
