Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, will begin charging businesses for certain messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform from October 1, 2026.
The company disclosed the pricing change in a WhatsApp Business Platform pricing update issued in July 2026, announcing that charges for service messages would resume from October 1.
The change will affect businesses using WhatsApp's Business Platform to communicate with customers, particularly those sending messages that fall within Meta's chargeable service-message categories.
Meta's pricing model for businesses is designed around different message categories and markets, with applicable charges depending on the type of message and the recipient's location.
Businesses that rely heavily on WhatsApp for customer service, notifications, order updates and other communications may therefore need to review their messaging strategies and budgets ahead of the October 1 implementation date.
The development is part of Meta's broader effort to monetise WhatsApp's growing business ecosystem while maintaining the platform as a major channel for businesses to interact directly with customers.
