Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has advised Nigerians to pay closer attention to people digging roads, streets and other locations while claiming to be laying network or communication cables.
Yusuf gave the advice in Series #138 of The Secure Mind, titled “Question, Check and Monitor Those Digging Grounds in the Name of Laying Network Cables.”
According to him, residents and community leaders should politely ask questions, request proper identification and seek evidence of authorisation before allowing cable-laying work to proceed.
Where there is uncertainty about the legitimacy of the activity, Yusuf advised residents to contact the appropriate authorities or the relevant telecommunications company to verify the workers' claims.
He, however, cautioned members of the public against confronting, threatening or harassing workers whose activities appear suspicious.
Instead, he recommended observing from a safe distance, gathering relevant information where appropriate and reporting concerns through proper and lawful channels.
Yusuf stressed that effective community security requires vigilance not only against obvious criminal activities but also against seemingly ordinary activities that may require verification.
He encouraged communities to develop a culture of responsible questioning and verification while ensuring that legitimate infrastructure projects are not unnecessarily obstructed.
“Unauthorized digging of grounds under the guise of telecommunication work must be verified and confirmed before it is allowed.”
He urged Nigerians to remain observant, avoid unnecessary confrontation and promptly report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
