US President Donald Trump has ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for one week in honour of country music legend Dolly Parton, who died at the age of 80.
Trump said the flags would be lowered beginning at 6:00 p.m. on August 25, 2026, following Parton’s death.
A White House proclamation formally directed that the US flag be flown at half-staff at the White House, federal buildings, military installations, naval vessels and US diplomatic facilities worldwide until sunset on September 1, 2026.
Trump described Parton’s death as a major loss and said the tribute was in recognition of her enormous impact on millions of people.
The week-long period is an unusually lengthy presidential flag tribute for a cultural figure, underscoring the significance of Parton's legacy in American music and culture.
