The adjustment to the President’s return schedule comes after the Presidency had earlier announced that Tinubu would return to Nigeria at the weekend following the extension of his working vacation in Europe.
Sources within the Presidency said the President is now expected to return on Tuesday and arrive in Lagos, where he is scheduled to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The revised schedule was also reported by multiple Nigerian news outlets, with reports indicating that the change represents a further adjustment to the President’s previously announced travel plans.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had earlier said Tinubu was expected to return to Nigeria this week and described the President as “hale and hearty.” He said Tinubu had remained engaged with official matters during his working vacation and was expected to participate in Independence Anniversary activities upon his return.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London before travelling to Paris, France, where he held meetings, including engagements with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. His working vacation was subsequently extended by several days.
Upon his return to Lagos, the President is expected to attend official activities connected to the October 1 Independence celebrations, while a return to Abuja is expected later.
The latest adjustment comes amid public discussion over the President’s extended stay abroad. Opposition figures and political groups have called for greater clarification about the duration of his absence, while the Presidency has maintained that Tinubu remains active in governance and has continued to discharge his responsibilities while away from Nigeria.
