Jamie Foxx sparked laughter while sharing an unusual story about a conversation he had with a man on the beach who claimed he could run the 40-yard dash in just 4.2 seconds.

Foxx said the man’s claim caught his attention because a 4.2-second 40-yard dash is an exceptionally fast time, particularly in the context of American football, where speed is a highly valued athletic attribute.

According to Foxx, he decided to contact former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis to find out whether the man’s claim could be taken seriously.

Foxx recalled telling Lewis about the man and his alleged speed, expecting perhaps a technical assessment from the legendary football player.

Instead, Lewis reportedly responded with an unexpected question, asking Foxx what the man’s backside looked like.

Foxx said he was confused by the response and questioned how the conversation had suddenly shifted from the man’s reported running speed to his physical appearance.

Lewis, however, reportedly explained that if the man could genuinely run a 4.2-second 40-yard dash, he could potentially be useful to a football team and that Foxx should examine his physique for clues.

Foxx then told Lewis that the man did not appear to have the physical build Lewis was expecting.

According to Foxx’s retelling, Lewis immediately concluded that the man was not telling the truth about his speed.

The story had Travis and Jason Kelce laughing during the conversation, with the brothers visibly amused by Foxx’s account of Lewis’ unconventional method of assessing an alleged football prospect.

The 40-yard dash is one of the most recognised speed tests associated with American football and is commonly used to assess the straight-line acceleration and speed of players, particularly during scouting and evaluation.

A time in the 4.2-second range is considered extremely fast, making Foxx’s story particularly humorous because of the contrast between the impressive claim and Lewis’ seemingly simple approach to determining whether it was credible.

Foxx’s anecdote also highlighted the football knowledge and confidence associated with Lewis, who spent his entire 17-season NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens and became one of the most prominent defensive players of his generation.

The former linebacker won two Super Bowl titles with Baltimore and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

The conversation provided another memorable moment involving the Kelce brothers, whose podcast has frequently featured athletes, entertainers and other high-profile guests discussing sports, entertainment and personal experiences.

Foxx’s story ultimately turned an ordinary encounter on a beach into a humorous lesson in football scouting — with Lewis’ blunt assessment becoming the punchline that left the Kelce brothers in tears.
