Pastor Chris Okafor Steps Aside as Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries Faces Sexual Allegation Scandal

Senior cleric announces withdrawal from pastoral duties amid mounting public outrage and calls for accountability

The Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has officially stepped down from his pastoral responsibilities following growing public outrage over multiple allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him.

The development comes after days of intense scrutiny on social media and within religious circles, where allegations involving inappropriate relationships and abuse of spiritual authority have sparked widespread condemnation. While Pastor Okafor has not been formally convicted in a court of law, the accusations have triggered strong reactions from worshippers, civil society groups, and advocates calling for transparency and accountability within faith-based institutions.

In a statement released through the church leadership, Pastor Okafor announced his decision to temporarily withdraw from ministerial duties, describing the move as necessary to allow for investigations and to prevent further distraction from the church’s spiritual mission. The church emphasized that the decision was taken in the interest of preserving its integrity and maintaining focus on worship and pastoral care.

The Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, a well-known Pentecostal church with a large following, has since assured members that interim leadership arrangements are being put in place to ensure continuity of services and programs. Church officials also pledged cooperation with any lawful investigations and urged members to remain calm while the issues are addressed.

The controversy has reignited broader conversations about accountability, power dynamics, and safeguarding within religious institutions in Nigeria, with many calling for stronger internal oversight mechanisms to protect congregants, particularly women and young people.

As the situation continues to unfold, the case serves as another reminder of the increasing demand for ethical conduct, transparency, and responsibility among public and religious leaders in the country.
