Okunola Tobi Emmanuel, popularly known by his stage name Kelty, is steadily carving a distinct space for himself in Nigeria’s evolving music scene, blending humour, relatability, and street-inspired storytelling into a sound he describes as “comic relief with purpose.”
Kelty, a 300-level Business Administration student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), began his music journey early, recording his first studio track at the age of 16. Over the years, he has grown from a passionate teenage artiste into a recognised campus performer with a loyal following, using music as both an emotional outlet and a tool for connection.
His profile received a major boost recently after his performance of the satirical and crowd-favourite track “Dear Airtel (Ete die die)” at the UNILAG Alumni Edutainment Fiesta 8.0, where his stage presence and humorous delivery resonated strongly with the audience. The performance further reinforced his reputation as an entertainer who understands how to connect with everyday experiences through sound.
In 2024, Kelty released an EP album that showcased his artistic range and collaborative spirit, featuring talents such as Mr Imag, Koffi Tha Guru, Ashny, and other emerging creatives. The project marked a defining moment in his career, helping him transition from campus buzz to a broader audience.
Behind the scenes, Kelty credits much of his growth to the support of Banire Olayinka Sharafa (BOS), Founder of Byinks Foundation, President of Harafban Group, and CEO of OJANigeria. He describes BOS as a social entrepreneur whose mentorship, connections, and opportunities for live performances have played a significant role in shaping his journey.
Looking ahead to 2026, Kelty says fans should expect a fresh phase of creativity, starting with a comic-relief style of music designed to lift spirits and spark laughter, regardless of personal struggles. According to him, the goal is simple: to put smiles on faces while staying authentic.
He also revealed that new songs and music videos are in the works, alongside a larger creative project set to unfold in the coming months. As part of his live performance schedule, Kelty will be performing at the grand opening of Bheerhugz Cafe, Chevron, Lekki, on January 27, 2026.
With ambitions that stretch beyond Nigeria, the artiste says he envisions his sound travelling across borders and connecting with diverse audiences. One of his biggest dreams remains sharing a stage with Olamide “Baddo”, an experience he describes as a “dream come true.”
As he balances academics with artistry, Kelty remains focused on consistency, relevance, and growth, determined to let his music speak across cultures and communities.
