Cooperate With Security Officers at Checkpoints, Moruf Yusuf Advises Road Users

Security expert says calmness, compliance and respect for lawful instructions can improve public safety and help security agencies combat crime.

Security expert and public safety advocate, Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with security personnel at checkpoints, stressing that compliance with lawful instructions plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and strengthening national security.

Yusuf gave the advice in Series 94 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness initiative designed to promote preventive thinking, responsible citizenship and practical safety habits.

Speaking on the theme, "How Road Users Should Behave at Checkpoints," the security expert explained that security checkpoints remain an essential component of crime prevention and public safety.

According to him, checkpoints enable law enforcement and other security agencies to detect criminal activities, recover stolen property, intercept wanted suspects, enforce traffic regulations and respond proactively to emerging security threats.

Yusuf advised motorists to reduce their speed as they approach checkpoints, obey traffic signs and follow the instructions of security personnel without resistance or confrontation.

He cautioned against making sudden movements, engaging in arguments or attempting to evade checkpoints, noting that such actions could raise suspicion and unnecessarily complicate security operations.

The security expert also encouraged road users to keep their vehicle documents, driver's licences and other means of identification readily available for inspection whenever requested by authorised officers.

He stressed that cooperation should always be accompanied by mutual respect and professionalism, adding that security personnel are better positioned to perform their duties effectively when members of the public remain calm and law-abiding.

According to Yusuf, a security-conscious citizen understands that respecting lawful security procedures is not merely a civic obligation but a practical contribution to safer roads and more secure communities.

Respecting security checkpoints and cooperating with officers help strengthen public safety and reduce crime,” he said.

Through The Secure Mind, Moruf Yusuf continues to educate Nigerians on practical security measures that promote vigilance, crime prevention and responsible decision-making in everyday life.

Moruf Yusuf, also known as Ojogbon, holds professional affiliations and qualifications including ANIPR, MISN, FCAI, FIIM and MSPSP.

His message to the public remains: “Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.”
