The Federal Government has completed the evacuation of Nigerians affected by the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, successfully bringing home more than 1,500 citizens.
The evacuation exercise was carried out as part of the government's efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Nigerians caught up in the unrest.
Officials said the operation involved coordinated efforts by relevant government agencies to facilitate the safe return of the evacuees, many of whom were forced to flee their homes and businesses following the attacks.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and interests of Nigerians abroad while continuing diplomatic engagements with the South African authorities to address the recurring incidents of xenophobic violence.
The returnees are expected to receive necessary support as they reintegrate into their communities following their arrival in Nigeria.
