Security expert and public safety advocate, Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has urged Nigerians to save emergency contact numbers on their mobile phones and use them responsibly, stressing that quick access to the right agencies could make the difference between life and death during emergencies.
Yusuf gave the advice in Series 93 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness initiative aimed at promoting preventive thinking, public safety and responsible security practices.
Speaking on the theme, "Save and Use Emergency Numbers, They Could Save a Life," the security expert noted that every second counts during emergencies such as accidents, fires, kidnappings, robberies, medical crises and other security incidents.
According to him, many lives could be saved if members of the public know the appropriate agencies to contact and act without delay.
Yusuf advised Nigerians to store emergency numbers on their phones and ensure that family members can easily access them when necessary. He, however, cautioned against making false distress calls or misusing emergency lines, warning that such actions can delay responses to genuine emergencies.
He also encouraged residents to promptly report crimes, suspicious movements and other security concerns to the appropriate authorities, describing timely and accurate information as a critical tool in preventing crime and improving emergency response.
The security expert further warned against spreading unverified reports or panic on social media during emergencies. Instead, he urged the public to verify information through the appropriate security or emergency agencies before sharing it with others.
According to Yusuf, responsible information sharing helps security agencies respond more effectively while reducing the spread of false reports capable of creating unnecessary fear and confusion.
As part of the latest edition of The Secure Mind, Yusuf published a comprehensive list of emergency contact numbers for key security and emergency response agencies operating in Ogun State, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, Ogun State Fire Service, TRACE Corps, So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, NDLEA, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
He urged residents to familiarise themselves with these contacts before emergencies occur, rather than searching for them in moments of panic.
“A saved emergency number may one day save your life or the life of someone else,” Yusuf said.
Through The Secure Mind, Moruf Yusuf continues to educate Nigerians on practical security measures that promote vigilance, crime prevention and responsible decision-making in everyday life.
