The Federal Government has said it is targeting improved electricity supply through increased deployment and sustainable management of renewable energy assets across the country.
The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this during the launch of the Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO) in Abuja.
Tegbe said renewable energy was becoming an increasingly important part of Nigeria’s electricity strategy, with the government planning to combine grid supply, embedded generation, mini-grids, distributed renewable energy and energy storage.
He explained that RAMCO would focus on preserving the value of renewable energy infrastructure, improving its uptime and availability, strengthening accountability and ensuring proper maintenance.
The minister said the initiative was designed to ensure that investments in power infrastructure translate into reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
The Federal Government is also targeting 6,500MW of electricity supply by the end of 2026 and 8,000MW by the end of 2027, as part of broader power-sector reforms.
Tegbe said the government's ambition goes beyond simply increasing electricity generation, stressing that reliable power is essential for manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture and Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
