The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has foiled an alleged attempt to vandalise railway track materials at the siding serving the Dangote Steel Rolling Mills in Osogbo, Osun State.
The security operatives reportedly recovered nine oxygen gas cylinders allegedly brought to the site for use in the planned vandalism.
The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by the theft and destruction of railway infrastructure, which can disrupt train operations, damage public assets and potentially endanger passengers and railway workers.
The recovery of the cylinders is expected to assist security agencies in their investigation into the attempted vandalism and the individuals allegedly involved.
The NRC and NSCDC are expected to sustain surveillance around railway corridors and critical infrastructure to prevent further acts of vandalism and protect national assets.
