The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has expressed concern over the safety and welfare of medical personnel, revealing that no fewer than 30 doctors were assaulted across Nigeria in the past 11 months.
The association said the attacks, which occurred in different parts of the country, underscore the growing security challenges faced by healthcare workers while carrying out their professional duties.
NARD described the trend as unacceptable, warning that violence against medical personnel not only endangers lives but also undermines the delivery of quality healthcare services to Nigerians.
The association called on the Federal Government, state governments, hospital managements and security agencies to strengthen security in healthcare facilities and ensure that perpetrators of assaults on medical workers are identified and prosecuted.
According to NARD, creating a safe and conducive working environment for doctors and other healthcare professionals is essential to improving patient care, boosting staff morale and addressing the ongoing challenge of brain drain in the health sector.
The association reiterated its commitment to advocating for the welfare, safety and professional rights of resident doctors, while urging Nigerians to respect and support healthcare workers who continue to provide essential medical services under often challenging conditions.
