The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy 1.56 million electricity meters to households across Nigeria before the end of 2026 as part of efforts to address the country's metering gap and improve power sector efficiency.
The planned rollout is expected to significantly reduce the reliance on estimated billing, ensuring that electricity consumers are billed based on their actual energy consumption.
According to the government, the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution system, improving transparency in billing and enhancing revenue collection within the power sector.
