The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is set to suspend its planned nationwide strike following a three-hour meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday evening.
The meeting was convened to address the concerns raised by the resident doctors and explore ways of preventing industrial action that could disrupt healthcare services across the country.
Sources familiar with the discussions indicated that both parties reached a mutual understanding on key issues affecting the welfare and working conditions of resident doctors, paving the way for the suspension of the planned strike.
The development comes as a relief to patients and healthcare providers who had expressed concerns over the potential impact of another nationwide doctors' strike on Nigeria's already strained health sector.
NARD is expected to formally communicate its decision after briefing its National Executive Council and members on the outcome of the meeting with the Presidency.
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to continued dialogue with medical professionals, expressing optimism that sustained engagement will help resolve outstanding issues and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services nationwide.
