Apostle Sam Adegoke of Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has apologised to women with whom he had sexual relationships before his marriage, expressing deep regret over his past actions.
Adegoke, who recently got married, made the disclosure in a statement released on Monday, in which he acknowledged his conduct and said he was taking steps to reflect on his actions and make amends.
The cleric said his apology was directed particularly to the women affected by his past relationships, acknowledging the impact his actions may have had on them.
He expressed remorse over what he described as actions he now deeply regrets, and said he had decided to step back from public ministry as part of his process of reflection and accountability.
According to Adegoke, the decision to withdraw temporarily from public ministry was intended to give him time to confront his past, seek forgiveness and make necessary amends.
His statement comes shortly after his marriage, bringing renewed public attention to his personal conduct before he got married.
The minister did not seek to dismiss or conceal his past relationships but instead publicly acknowledged them and apologised to those involved.
Adegoke also indicated that he understood the importance of taking responsibility for his actions rather than allowing his position in ministry to shield him from accountability.
His decision to step away from public ministry is expected to give him an opportunity for personal reflection away from the demands and visibility associated with his pastoral role.
The apology has also sparked discussions about accountability among religious leaders, particularly the need for ministers to acknowledge personal failures and address the consequences of their actions.
While Adegoke’s statement focused on his own conduct, he did not provide further details about the women involved or the circumstances surrounding the relationships.
He maintained that his decision to apologise and withdraw from public ministry was part of his commitment to confronting his past and making amends.
