WAEC Appoints Dr Amos Josiah Dangut as New Registrar and Chief Executive

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Dr Amos Josiah Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.

Dangut’s appointment places him at the helm of the regional examination body responsible for conducting and coordinating examinations for secondary school students across English-speaking West African countries.

As Registrar and Chief Executive, he will oversee the council’s administrative operations, examination management and efforts to maintain the credibility and integrity of its assessment processes.

WAEC plays a significant role in the educational systems of its member countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Liberia, through examinations such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

His appointment comes as the council continues to address issues surrounding examination administration, result processing, malpractice and the growing use of technology in educational assessments.

Further details regarding the effective date of the appointment, his predecessor and his professional background were not provided in the announcement.
