Engr. Olumayowa Idowu Honoured as Africa’s Rising Engineering Star


 Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, the youngest ever Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Chapter, has been honoured with the Young Professional Excellence Award for Leadership by the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO).

The award was presented during the 11th UNESCO–Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Kampala, Uganda. A gathering of Africa’s top engineers, innovators, and policymakers celebrating leadership and excellence in engineering.

Idowu, an alumnus of the Public Leadership Programme of AIG-Imoukhuede at the University of Oxford, has led the NSE Abeokuta Chapter to record-breaking milestones, mentoring young professionals and championing innovative engineering solutions.

“This award is not just for me but for everyone who has supported our vision of advancing engineering in Nigeria and Africa,” Idowu said. “It is a reminder of our responsibility as young professionals to drive positive change, inspire innovation, and transform our communities.”

Under his leadership, the chapter has strengthened programmes, branding, and public engagement, spotlighting the critical role of engineers in national development. Idowu also serves on the FAEO Academy Committee, further cementing his influence across the continent.

The FAEO Young Professional Excellence Award recognises emerging leaders who inspire teams, mobilise communities, and deliver impactful engineering solutions addressing Africa’s socio-economic challenges making Idowu’s achievement a shining example of youthful leadership and continental impact.
