FG Launches Ambitious TVET Programme to Train One Million Nigerian Youths in Practical Skills and Entrepreneurship

The Federal Government has launched a massive national youth empowerment drive, aiming to train almost one million Nigerians under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative. The programme, unveiled by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, is set to turn job seekers into entrepreneurs.

With 250,000 youths already enrolled across 2,600 centres nationwide, the initiative will cover 28 high-demand sectors including fashion design, modern farming, plumbing, tiling, and GSM repair. The curriculum is 90% practical, giving participants hands-on experience that could transform Nigeria’s economic future.

Each trainee receives a ₦22,500 monthly stipend, while training centres get ₦45,000 per participant. Graduates also receive starter packs and access to Bank of Industry loans, ensuring they can immediately start businesses.

Minister Alausa hailed the project as part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying, “Technical and vocational education now stands at the centre of our national development agenda. This is a great day for our nation.”

Trainees are ecstatic. Margaret Ogunsanya, a fashion student, said: “Now I can cut, measure, and sew professionally. I’m already planning my own brand.”
