Official Endorsement: NFF Recognizes AfrisportPro League for Youth Football Growth

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially endorsed the 2025 AfrisportPro Youth League, recognising it as a key platform for nurturing the country’s next generation of football stars.

The announcement, made on Monday, confirms that the league meets the NFF’s standards for youth competitions and aligns with national objectives for football development. The league is open to under-17 and under-20 teams across Nigeria and promises to provide a structured pathway for talent identification and progression.

“The NFF is pleased to endorse the AfrisportPro Youth League. This initiative will provide young players with the exposure, competitive environment, and professional standards required to succeed both locally and internationally,” said NFF Technical Director, Sanusi Lamido.

A Platform for Emerging Talent

The league, which kicks off in November 2025, will see clubs from all six geopolitical zones compete in a series of regional and national matches. It is expected to attract scouts, coaches, and football academies looking to identify top talent.

Organisers have emphasised that the league is more than just competition — it also includes training workshops, coaching clinics, and mentorship programs aimed at holistic player development.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between grassroots football and professional leagues in Nigeria,” said AfrisportPro CEO, Michael Okeke. “The NFF’s endorsement validates our efforts and motivates us to deliver a top-tier youth league.”

Implications for Nigerian Football

Football analysts have welcomed the endorsement, noting that structured youth leagues are critical to maintaining Nigeria’s competitive edge on the continental and global stage. The league is expected to feed talent into the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and national youth teams, including the under-17 and under-20 squads.

“Nigeria has a rich pool of young footballers, but many struggle to gain proper exposure. This league offers them a clear pathway to professional football,” commented former Super Eagles striker Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha.

With the NFF backing and AfrisportPro’s organisational structure, the 2025 Youth League is set to become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s football development strategy, providing opportunities for thousands of aspiring players across the nation.
