EFCC Suspends Officers Over ₦10m Extortion of Rapper Oladips

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission confirms investigation into extortion allegations made by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended some of its operatives following allegations of extortion made by Nigerian hip-hop artist Oladipupo Oladimeji, better known as Oladips.

The rapper alleged that EFCC officers detained him for five days and collected ₦10 million before granting him release, despite a lack of evidence linking him to any crime.

Reacting to the allegation, EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the anti-graft agency had launched a full-scale investigation and temporarily relieved the officers involved of their operational duties.

“The EFCC views the matter with utmost seriousness,” Oyewale stated in Abuja. “The commission has commenced investigations, and the officers in the team that handled Oladips’ case have been recalled to the headquarters for questioning.”

He reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to integrity and accountability, saying any officer found culpable would face strict disciplinary measures.

Oladips, a Lagos-born rapper known for his street-conscious lyrics, has been vocal about police and agency misconduct in the entertainment industry. His allegation has since sparked widespread discussion on social media about law enforcement abuses and celebrity profiling.

Oyewale urged Nigerians to allow due process, adding that if the claims were false, sanctions would also be imposed on the artist for attempting to tarnish the image of the EFCC.
