Tinubu orders security agencies to rescue abducted schoolgirls, mourns Brigadier General Musa Uba and fallen troops, and urges Nigerians to support security operations with vital intelligence.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the k!lling of Nigerian soldiers, describing the incidents as heartbreaking and unacceptable. The President disclosed that he is “depressed” by the tragic events, despite earlier intelligence warnings about a possible bandit attack.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the government, parents, and guardians of the abducted students—while assuring them of the Federal Government’s commitment to securing the girls’ immediate release.
The President also extended his condolences to the Nigerian military over the deaths of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who were ambushed while combating insurgents in Borno State.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” Tinubu said.
He described the abduction of the schoolgirls from Maga in Kebbi State as a painful disruption to the education of innocent children and praised Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the attack.
Tinubu condemned the security breach and emphasised the urgent need for stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies. According to him, the success of ongoing anti-insurgency operations relies heavily on timely intelligence from local communities.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe,” the President added.
He reiterated that security agencies have been directed to act swiftly and ensure the safe return of the abducted girls.
The President also called on community leaders, residents in high-risk areas, and Nigerians across the country to share intelligence that could help thwart future attacks and support ongoing operations.
The Federal Government, he affirmed, will continue to prioritise security as a core pillar of national stability, stressing that protecting the lives of students and military personnel remains a top priority.
