Shades of Strength: Beauty Queen Champions Albinism Awareness in Southwest Nigeria

From the runway to advocacy, Kofoworola Komolafe empowers communities and amplifies voices often overlooked.

Kofoworola Komolafe, a journalism and media studies student at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly), is making waves in both the beauty and advocacy spaces. Crowned Miss Beauty Southwest Nigeria, Kofoworola proudly stood out as the only contestant with albinism, using her platform to challenge societal misconceptions and promote inclusivity.

Beyond her modeling achievements, Kofoworola is an entrepreneur and an ambassador with the Street Project Foundation, where she leads the Artvocacy movement in Abeokuta. Through this initiative, she uses drama, storytelling, and media to empower persons with albinism, fight stigma, and promote community understanding.

Her advocacy work includes a personal project titled “Shades of Strength: Embracing Albinism with Pride,” aimed at addressing challenges commonly faced by persons with albinism. These include low self-esteem, social rejection, limited access to sun protection, and educational discrimination especially among young girls.

Kofoworola’s efforts combine awareness campaigns, empowerment workshops, and policy advocacy, ensuring that creative expression becomes a tool for social change. She also hopes to inspire others through her career as an aspiring actor, bringing stories to life and highlighting diverse experiences in film.

Reflecting on her journey, Kofoworola shared that despite facing challenges in school, relationships, and public perception, she has successfully fought stigma and misconceptions, making her a role model for young persons with albinism.

As she continues her advocacy and creative work, Kofoworola Komolafe remains a beacon of resilience, demonstrating that beauty, talent, and activism can intersect to create meaningful social impact.
