Train Accident in China Kills 11 Track Workers, Injures 2 in Yunnan Province

Authorities launch investigation after seismic-testing train collides with construction crew at Kunming station.

A tragic rail accident in southwest China has claimed the lives of 11 railway construction workers after a train collided with them at Luoyang Town Station in Kunming, Yunnan Province.

Local railway authorities said the incident occurred early Thursday morning when a train used for seismic equipment testing struck the workers who had reportedly entered the track area.

According to a statement by the Kunming Railway Bureau, the train was navigating a curve at the station when the collision occurred. Two additional workers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities say transportation services returned to normal by midday, while an investigation into the cause of the crash is already underway.

Industrial accidents remain relatively common in parts of China due to weak enforcement of safety regulations and varying operational standards.
