NYSC Introduces AI and App Development in Major Revamp of Skill Acquisition Programme

New initiative aims to equip corps members with future-ready digital skills and boost employability

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has unveiled a major overhaul of its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and mobile app development, marking a strategic shift toward digital innovation and future-ready skills.

The revamped curriculum, announced by NYSC leadership, is designed to better prepare corps members for the evolving global job market, where technology-driven competencies are increasingly in demand. By integrating AI and app development into SAED, the scheme aims to empower young Nigerians with practical digital skills that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship, and tech-driven solutions across sectors.

According to the NYSC, the new additions will focus on hands-on training, problem-solving, and real-world applications, enabling participants to build functional apps, understand basic AI concepts, and leverage technology for business and social impact. The programme will also collaborate with tech professionals and industry partners to ensure corps members receive relevant and up-to-date training.

Officials explained that the upgrade aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda to promote digital literacy, innovation, and youth empowerment, while reducing unemployment among graduates. The initiative is expected to enhance self-reliance among corps members, encouraging them to create startups, offer digital services, or integrate technology into existing businesses.

With the inclusion of AI and app development, the NYSC SAED programme reinforces its commitment to evolving with global trends and equipping Nigerian youths with the skills needed to compete in a technology-driven economy.
