No Plan to Increase 2026 UTME, Direct Entry Fees — JAMB Reassures Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says registration costs for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry remain unchanged, dismissing fears of a fee hike amid rising economic pressures.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed widespread speculation about a possible increase in the cost of its examination forms, assuring candidates and parents that there is no plan to hike the registration fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

JAMB gave the reassurance in a statement on Tuesday, stressing that the board remains committed to ensuring affordable access to tertiary education for Nigerian students despite prevailing economic challenges. According to the examination body, claims circulating on social media suggesting an impending increase in UTME and Direct Entry form fees are false and misleading.

The board explained that any review of examination fees would be transparently communicated through its official channels and in consultation with relevant stakeholders. It emphasized that maintaining the current fee structure aligns with its mandate to reduce financial barriers for candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions across the country.

JAMB further noted that it has continued to invest in examination integrity, digital infrastructure, and improved candidate experience without transferring additional costs to applicants. The board highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance its computer-based testing system, strengthen security measures, and expand access to registration centres nationwide.

Advising candidates to rely solely on verified information, JAMB urged the public to disregard unverified reports and warned against falling victim to misinformation or fraudulent agents. The board reaffirmed that official announcements regarding examinations and admissions are only released through its website, accredited media outlets, and recognized communication platforms.

With the 2026 examination cycle approaching, JAMB assured prospective candidates and their families of its readiness to conduct a seamless, transparent, and affordable admission process, reiterating that no increment in UTME or Direct Entry form fees is under consideration.
