Trump Says Venezuela Must Spend Oil Deal Proceeds Only on “Made-in-America” Goods

US President announces that revenue from a new oil agreement will be used exclusively to purchase American products, in a move he calls beneficial for both nations.

United States President Donald Trump has declared that Venezuela will use the proceeds from a newly announced oil deal with Washington to buy only American-made products, a statement that signals a deep economic realignment and strategic partnership between the two countries.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump outlined that Caracas is expected to commit all funds received from the oil arrangement to the purchase of United States goods. The purchases, he said, will include American agricultural products, medicines, medical devices, and equipment designed to help modernize Venezuela’s electric grid and energy infrastructure.

“I have just been informed that Venezuela is going to be purchasing ONLY American Made Products, with the money they receive from our new Oil Deal,” Trump wrote, describing the arrangement as a “wise choice” that benefits people in both Venezuela and the United States.

Trump’s comments come amid sweeping efforts by his administration to exert control over Venezuela’s vast oil resources after a controversial military operation in Caracas this week. Under the terms of the emerging framework, the United States will market Venezuelan crude and oversee the sale of oil, with funds directed through U.S.-controlled mechanisms before being spent on U.S. exports.

The policy has drawn mixed reactions internationally. Supporters praise it as a diplomatic and economic win for U.S. industry, arguing it could stimulate American manufacturing and agricultural sectors. Critics, however, view it as a form of economic coercion that ties Venezuela’s natural resource revenue to U.S. interests, raising questions about sovereignty and the broader geopolitical implications of such a deal.

As global attention focuses on the evolving U.S.–Venezuela relationship, the call for Caracas to spend exclusively on American goods highlights a strategic pivot that supporters say strengthens bilateral commercial ties even as the political and legal controversies surrounding the oil agreement continue to unfold.
