The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has sanctioned Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo over disciplinary infractions recorded during a recent World Cup play-off match.
According to FIFA, Nigeria was penalised for a breach relating to order and security at matches after spectators were reported to have thrown objects during the game. The act contravenes Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
As a result, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was fined 1,000 Swiss francs by the global football governing body.
The Democratic Republic of Congo received a heavier sanction after supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the match, an act that violates Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, stirred further controversy after the match by accusing officials of the Congolese side of engaging in voodoo practices following Nigeria’s defeat.
The disciplinary measures form part of FIFA’s broader efforts to maintain order, safety and fair conduct during international football competitions.
