President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu as the new Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Management Agency.
The appointment takes effect from April 16, 2026, for an initial term of four years, in line with the provisions of Section 5 of the National Biosafety Management Agency Act, 2015.
Dr. Zuntu is expected to lead the agency in strengthening Nigeria’s biosafety framework, including the regulation and management of modern biotechnology practices, as well as ensuring the safe handling, transfer, and use of genetically modified organisms.

The National Biosafety Management Agency plays a critical role in safeguarding public health, agriculture, and the environment by ensuring that biotechnology developments comply with national and international safety standards.
The appointment is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to reinforce institutional capacity and promote scientific regulation in key sectors, particularly as Nigeria continues to explore advancements in agricultural biotechnology and environmental safety.
