The Governor of Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has publicly declared that President Bola Tinubu must win the 2027 presidential election, while also criticising opposition figures for what he described as past failures in leadership.
In a statement that has since sparked political reactions, the governor asserted that prominent opposition leaders, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi, had previously held positions of influence but did not deliver the expected national transformation.
According to him, the current administration under President Tinubu has performed better compared to previous governments, including that of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, particularly in terms of policy direction and governance efforts.
“President Bola Tinubu must win the 2027 election. Obi, Atiku, Amaechi have failed this country in the past. Tinubu’s government has done better than Obasanjo’s government,” the governor reportedly stated.
The remarks have continued to generate mixed reactions across political circles, with supporters describing the statement as a strong endorsement of the current administration, while critics argue it reflects ongoing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As the political climate gradually builds toward the next election cycle, analysts say such declarations from key state officials may further shape party alignments and public discourse in the coming months.
