A High Court in Uganda has sentenced a man to death by hanging after he was found guilty of killing four toddlers during a violent incident at a nursery school, a case that has drawn widespread condemnation across the country.
The convict was charged and tried for the fatal attack that occurred within a childcare facility, where four young children lost their lives and others were reportedly left traumatised. The court, after reviewing evidence presented by the prosecution, ruled that the accused was responsible for the deaths and that the act was carried out with extreme disregard for human life.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge described the offence as one of the most disturbing cases involving vulnerable children, noting that it caused deep emotional pain to families and significant public outrage.
Following the ruling, the court imposed the maximum penalty under Ugandan law, sentencing the defendant to death by hanging.
The decision has since triggered mixed reactions, with some members of the public supporting the judgment as a deterrent against violent crime, while others continue to express grief and shock over the tragic loss of young lives.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of schools and childcare centres across Uganda, urging stricter enforcement of child protection measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
