NPFL Targets August 27 to 29 for 2026/27 Season Kickoff

League organisers move to ensure an early start following strategic meeting with key football stakeholders.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has tentatively scheduled the 2026/27 season to kick off between August 27 and 29, as efforts intensify to maintain a stable football calendar in the country.

The proposed date was agreed upon during a joint stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, involving the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the NPFL, and club owners.

The meeting focused on strengthening domestic football, improving league administration and ensuring the new season begins on schedule to align with international football calendars.

League organisers believe an early kickoff will provide clubs with adequate time to prepare for domestic competitions and continental tournaments while promoting consistency in the Nigerian football calendar.

Although the dates remain tentative, stakeholders expressed optimism that all necessary arrangements would be concluded ahead of the proposed kickoff window.

Further details, including the full fixtures and official season calendar, are expected to be announced by the NPFL in the coming weeks.
