Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has advised citizens to make their personal safety a top priority whenever participating in public protests, stressing that peaceful civic engagement should never come at the expense of human life or property.
The advice is contained in Series #99 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness campaign focused on promoting practical safety, responsible citizenship and crime prevention.
According to Yusuf, while peaceful protest remains a lawful means of expressing opinions and demanding change, participants should understand the purpose of any demonstration, assess the environment and have a clear personal safety plan before taking part.
He urged protesters to remain peaceful at all times, avoid confrontations with fellow protesters, members of the public or law enforcement officers, and refrain from carrying weapons or engaging in acts of violence or vandalism.
Yusuf also encouraged participants to stay with trusted companions, keep their mobile phones fully charged, identify safe exit routes before joining any gathering and leave immediately if the situation becomes violent or unsafe.
He further advised citizens to respect lawful directives issued by security agencies, understand their rights and responsibilities under the law, and avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing panic or escalating tensions.
"Your safety should never be sacrificed. A peaceful protest is one that protects both lives and property."
