The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has signed a new $8.5 million-a-year kit and equipment agreement with Adidas, marking a major commercial boost for Nigerian football.
Under the agreement, Adidas will pay the NFF $4.5 million annually in cash and provide an additional $4 million worth of kits and equipment for Nigeria’s national teams.
The deal also includes a 20 per cent royalty on merchandise sales, potentially increasing the total value of the partnership beyond the guaranteed $8.5 million annual package.
The agreement will see Adidas return as the kit supplier for Nigeria’s national teams, ending the country’s 11-year association with Nike. The new partnership is expected to take effect from 2027.
Former NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who disclosed details of the agreement following his resignation, described it as the highest kit sponsorship deal in Africa.
The agreement is a significant increase from Nigeria’s outgoing Nike arrangement, which Gusau said provided about $500,000 in cash and $1 million in equipment annually.
The new deal is expected to provide improved kits and equipment for the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and Nigeria’s various youth national teams, while strengthening the NFF’s commercial revenue base.
The announcement comes at a significant moment for Nigerian football, following the resignation of Gusau and members of the NFF executive committee amid criticism over the performance and management of the national teams.
