Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has warned Nigerians against scooping fuel from fallen tankers, describing the practice as a dangerous habit capable of causing mass casualties.
Yusuf gave the warning in Series #136 of The Secure Mind, titled “Scooping Fuel from a Fallen Tanker Kills, Stop It and Warn Others.”

According to him, when a tanker carrying petrol, diesel or other flammable products overturns, members of the public should immediately stay away from the scene instead of rushing to collect the spilled fuel.
He specifically warned children, parents, artisans, traders, tenants, landlords and other members of the community against approaching fallen tankers.
Yusuf explained that petrol is highly flammable and that its vapour can spread quickly. A small spark or ignition source can potentially trigger a devastating fire or explosion.
He therefore advised people not to approach a fallen tanker with fire, vehicles or any other potential source of ignition.
He also urged members of the public to move to a safe distance, warn others against approaching the scene and immediately contact the appropriate emergency authorities and trained professionals.
According to him, the responsibility of members of the public is to protect themselves and others while allowing qualified personnel to safely manage the incident.
Yusuf stressed that a safety-conscious individual should never attempt to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker or encourage others to do so.
He said the warning applies not only to petrol but also to diesel and other potentially flammable products.
“Scooping fuel is a dangerous act that could have catastrophic consequences.”
He urged Nigerians to prioritise human life over the temptation to collect spilled fuel and to help prevent others from putting themselves and their communities at risk.
