Nigeria's domestic petrol supply increased significantly from 38.9 per cent in 2025 to 78.6 per cent in the first half of 2026, reflecting a major improvement in local fuel availability.
The sharp increase is largely attributed to the expansion of domestic refining capacity, which has boosted the production and distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) within the country.
The development marks a significant reduction in Nigeria's reliance on imported petrol and aligns with the Federal Government's drive to strengthen local refining, improve energy security and conserve foreign exchange.
Industry stakeholders say the rise in domestic supply is expected to enhance fuel availability, stabilise the downstream petroleum sector and support the long-term sustainability of Nigeria's energy market.
The improvement also underscores the growing contribution of local refineries to meeting the nation's petrol demand, as reforms in the oil and gas sector continue to reshape Nigeria's fuel supply chain.
