The Nigerian Air Force has strengthened its strategic intelligence capacity through specialised training and international cooperation, following its participation in a major intelligence programme hosted by the US Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC.

The Nigerian Air Force has intensified efforts to strengthen its strategic intelligence capability through specialised training programmes and international partnerships aimed at improving operational effectiveness.

The commitment was reinforced through the Service’s participation in the Combined Strategic Intelligence Training Programme (CSITP) organised at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC, United States.

The programme, which ran from 21 July to 11 September 2026, brought together participants from the United States and 14 other countries, providing an international platform for the exchange of intelligence knowledge, strategic perspectives and professional expertise.

The participation of the Nigerian Air Force in the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to develop highly skilled personnel capable of supporting effective intelligence-led operations.

Strategic intelligence plays a critical role in modern military operations, particularly in understanding emerging threats, assessing security environments and providing commanders with reliable information for informed decision-making.

Through specialised training, personnel are exposed to advanced approaches to intelligence analysis, strategic assessment and the integration of intelligence into military planning and operations.

The international nature of the CSITP also provides opportunities for participating countries to strengthen professional relationships and share experiences in addressing evolving security challenges.

For Nigeria, strengthening strategic intelligence capability remains particularly important as the country continues to confront complex security threats requiring coordinated, intelligence-driven responses.

The Nigerian Air Force has continued to invest in professional development and international cooperation as part of broader efforts to enhance the capabilities of its personnel and improve operational readiness.

The completion of the CSITP therefore represents another step in the Service’s efforts to build a stronger intelligence architecture capable of supporting national defence and security objectives.

The knowledge and experience gained through such international programmes are expected to contribute to improved intelligence gathering, analysis and strategic decision-making within the Nigerian Air Force.
