Tragedy has struck Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms in history, ripped through the island with 185mph winds, leaving entire towns submerged.
The Jamaican government has declared the entire nation a “disaster area”, with at least three people confirmed dead and thousands displaced.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged citizens to remain sheltered as floodwaters and landslides devastate several regions.
Hospitals, schools, and homes were destroyed, while over 35% of households remain without power.
Meteorologists describe Melissa as “a once-in-a-century storm,” with the US National Hurricane Center warning of continued life-threatening conditions.
Humanitarian agencies are now mobilizing relief efforts as Jamaica faces what many call the “storm of the century.”
