A routine morning turned violent in Charlotte, North Carolina, when a 44-year-old teacher assistant, Chandraprabha Singh, allegedly attacked her husband with a knife all because he didn’t clean the house.
According to police reports, the shocking incident happened around 10:49 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at an apartment complex on Foxhaven Drive in the Ballantyne area. Singh, who works with kindergarten to grade three pupils at Endhaven Elementary School, was accused of “unlawfully and feloniously” cutting her husband, Arvind Singh, on the neck.
Investigators say the altercation began after a heated argument about house chores. Arvind reportedly told police that his wife “became frustrated because he had not cleaned the house and intentionally attacked him.”
However, Singh told a different story. She claimed the cut was accidental saying she was making breakfast, holding a knife, and turned suddenly while her husband stood close by.
Police arrived moments later to find Arvind already rushed to the hospital with a serious neck injury. Singh was arrested on the spot and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
A magistrate initially denied her bond, but during her October 13 court hearing, it was later set at $10,000, with strict conditions including wearing an electronic ankle monitor and maintaining no contact with her husband.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District confirmed that Singh has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police clarified that the assault did not occur on school grounds and did not involve any students or staff.
The case has since sparked local outrage and debate, with many questioning how a disagreement over household chores spiraled into near tragedy.
